The kind of love story that begins by accident and ends on purpose.
Leonard is seventy-eight, recently widowed, and has decided — with the quiet certainty of a man who has made his bed — to spend his remaining months alone on the Cornish coast. Betsy is fourteen, has run away from a foster placement in Truro, and chooses the wrong bus on the wrong morning.
Across four days, in a falling-down farmhouse on the cliffs at Trevose, the two of them work out — with very little dialogue and a lot of cooking — what it is they each need from someone who isn't going to be there for long. Betsy & Leonard is a feature about temporary kindness, and the bruises it leaves.
Shot over six weeks in Cornwall in autumn 2023 on the Alexa Mini LF and finished in Dolby Vision.
I'm producing through Iron Box Films and developing my own slate. If you have a project that needs the right kind of attention, let's talk.
